Product Description-
For my Senior Project I will be presenting examples of my skills in marksman ship. I will attempt to acquire the skills necessary to target shoot accurately and safely while also attaining the knowledge to care for my weapon. I believe that this will be a great learning experience and a huge challenge. I think that the most difficult obstacle will be trying to pack the several years of intelligent practice required to be an expert, in to such a short time. I also think that seeking to adopt the muscle memory required to be an expert marksmen will be a great challenge. I plan to spend a large portion of my 15 hours training as is this is the only way to enhance ones skills. My first 4 hours will be spent breaking down, cleaning and learning to maintain my weapons because understanding your tools in any craft is the most cogent first step. The next 5 hours will accompanied by my mentor and spent learning to shoot safely and accurately with any one of many different types of long guns and hand guns. After this I will spend 1 hour honing my skills with no instruction. I have elected to spend the next 8 hours of my project time attending a concealed carry weapons class. Although I will not receive a permit at the end of the course due to my age I will receive a certificate verifying that I have the skills required to pass the class. The Buncombe county officers that will be teaching the class have agreed to let me participate in full with the exception of receiving a permit. My mentor will Chad Hartman, a friend of my family’s and a reserve officer at the Buncombe County sheriff’s department. Mr. Hartman will be guiding me through safe and accurate shooting. I hope to cover techniques as well as safety precautions to be taken while shooting with the assistance of Mr. Hartman. I estimate the cost of this project to be four and five hundred dollars. With the price of a hand gun and the ammunition essential to practice. The long guns that I will utilize I will have access to for no cost other than the ammo. During the course of this project I hope to learn how to maintain and operate a hand gun and a long gun precisely and safely. Throughout this learning experience I will maintain a photo and video record. I will visually document my growth in addition to a video of my acquired skill at the end of my planned 18 hours. I believe that my product will be very interesting. Marksmanship was a finesse secured out of necessity and has developed into an art. It takes not only enhanced practice of body but practice of mind as well. Marksmanship is the focus of my research paper and it seems fitting that someone interested in Marksmanship would learn the skill for themselves, so that is what I have chosen to center my product around. A mastery passed down through the ages for the use of protection, defense and sport.
